Launch self-assessment

In New Brunswick, the virus COVID-19 is now spreading within the community.  This has changed the focus for testing.  In order to protect the people who are most at risk from this virus and to protect our healthcare system from being overwhelmed, more people with symptoms will be tested for the virus, not just those who have a recent travel connection.  If the following applies to you, please go through the online self-assessment tool as you are now a priority for COVID-19 testing where one or more of the following applies:

  • If you have symptoms AND the symptoms are severe;
  • If you have symptoms AND are over the age of 60;
  • If you have symptoms AND have a history of hypertension (high blood pressure), cardiovascular disease (heart disease), chronic respiratory disease (lung disease), diabetes or cancer;
  • If you have symptoms AND are living somewhere that is crowded and where it is difficult to find enough space to self-isolate.
  • If you have symptoms AND are have been in a group setting (e.g., workplace, gathering, party) where cases of COVID-19 have been identified.

Remember that the main symptoms include fever, cough, mild trouble breathing; other symptoms may include headache, sore throat, or runny nose.

If you have symptoms associated with Covid-19 (even mild ones) and work as a health care professional, such as physician, nurse practitioner, nurse, pharmacist/technician, Ambulance NB, Extra Mural program, first responder or dispatcher, staff in hospitals, nursing homes, and other institutional or group living settings with direct patient care/contact please self-isolate and call 1 833 475 0724.

They are:

  • working closely with federal, provincial and territorial partners to share information and assess potential health risks
  • ensuring our health system is ready to respond effectively if needed
  • ensuring front-line health professionals have information about the virus so they can:
    • take recommended actions
    • promptly report suspected cases to public health officials
    • investigate of persons who may have been exposed and are potentially at risk of developing illness to help prevent spread
