A. Know How it Spreads

The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person.
• Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).
• Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks.
• These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.
• Some recent studies have suggested that COVID-19 may be spread by people who are not showing symptoms.

B. Protect Yourself and Others

Everyone should:

• Clean your hands often
• Avoid close contact – Social Distancing
• Cover your mouth and nose with a mask / cloth when around others
• Cover coughs and sneezes
• Clean and disinfect

C. Healthy Parenting in the time of COVID-19

To help parents interact constructively with their children during this time of confinement, WHO has issued six one-page tips for parents cover planning one-on-one time, staying positive, creating a daily routine, avoiding bad behaviour, managing stress, and talking about COVID-19. This Portal was initially conceived to create a database of the persons returning to the State due to the COVID-19 pandemic so that Health Volunteers and IVRS could reach out to such persons to check on their health status, provide advice and also update the status in the system to take precautions and check the occurrence of any COVID-19 symptoms / cases for timely intervention. In course of time, the Portal was enhanced to provide useful and updated information to citizens on COVID-19 related Notifications, Announcements and Advisories including awareness materials, contact details, FAQs, etc. It also provides a host of online services which are related with the administration and management during COVID -19 Pandemic as follows:

1. Online Self Registration of Citizens entering the state.
2. Online Self-Reporting of registered citizens under home quarantine to provide a daily status update of their health.
3. Online Application of curfew passes during lockdown from the Deputy Commissioner of the respective districts.

A. What is Social Distancing

Social distancing, also called “physical distancing,” means keeping space between yourself and other people. To practice social or physical distancing:

• Stay at least 6 feet (2 meters) from other people
• Do not gather in groups
• Stay out of crowded places and avoid mass gatherings

In addition to everyday steps to prevent COVID-19, keeping space between you and others is one of the best tools we have to avoid being exposed to this virus and slowing its spread locally and across the country and world.

Since people can spread the virus before they know they are sick, it is important to stay away from others when possible, even if you have no symptoms. Social distancing is especially important for people who are at higher risk of getting very sick.

B. What is home quarantine?

Isolation and quarantine are public health practices used to protect the public by preventing exposure to people who have or may have a contagious disease.

Quarantine separates and restricts the movement of people who were exposed to a contagious disease to see if they become sick. These people may have been exposed to a disease and do not know it, or they may have the disease but do not show symptoms.

Home Quarantine is intended for anyone who believes they have been exposed to COVID-19 and are required to be home quarantined to prevent community transmission.

C. When & How to Discontinue Home Quarantine

Migrant Workers / Students who have returned home can stop home quarantine after 14 days of and do not have any symptoms.

Remember:
• Even if you don't develop any coronavirus symptoms during the two-week quarantine period, you're not totally off the hook when it ends.
• It is just as important to continue washing your hands frequently, cover your mouth when you cough, avoid touching your face and wipe down doorknobs and other surfaces frequently touched by many people — to help keep yourself and others healthy.
• Report any symptoms to the Helpline immediately and seek medical attention.

In these challenging times, I want to thank each and every citizen of Meghalaya for their role in preventing the spread of COVID-19. The State today standsamongst the lowest ranked in the country in terms of COVID-19 cases.

This is a matter of great pride for the State and highlights how the Government, and the community have come together to tackle this unprecedented crisis. A large part of the success has been due to the adaptive and decentralised leadership model of the Health and Family Department and the District Administration working with the Headmen and the local community,which has helped us resolve issues in a timely and far more effective manner.The community quarantine centres, which have been duly recognised at the national level is one of the best examples of our communitarian culture.

In such critical times we have put in place enhanced measures for the health & safety of our community. Now that we are gradually opening up, I urge upon everyone to practice the highest standards of hygiene at home, at their workplace and in public spaces. This is not a time to be complacent.

I would once again like to express my deepest gratitude to all the front-line workers, first responders, healthcare workers, police personnel, sanitation workers, the District Administration and everyone who have worked tirelessly. Stay aware of the latest information on the COVID-19 outbreak, available on the national,state and local public health authority. Many countries around the world have seen cases of COVID-19 and several have seen outbreaks. Authorities in China and some other countries have succeeded in slowing or stopping their outbreaks. However, the situation is unpredictable so check regularly for the latest news.

You can reduce your chances of being infected or spreading COVID19 by taking some simple precautions:

• Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcoholbased hand rub or wash them with soap and water. Why? Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.
• Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing. Why? When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease.
• Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth. Why? Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.
• Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately. Why? Droplets spread virus. By following good respiratory hygiene you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19.
• Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority. Why? National and local authorities will have the most up to date information on the situation in your area. Calling in advance will allow your health care provider to quickly direct you to the right health facility. This will also protect you and help prevent spread of viruses and other infections.
• Keep up to date on the latest COVID-19 hotspots (cities or local areas where COVID-19 is spreading widely). If possible, avoid traveling to places – especially if you are an older person or have diabetes, heart or lung disease. Why? You have a higher chance of catching COVID-19 in one of these areas.
