31 new deaths and 376 new cases confirmed

  • the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) has been notified that 31 people diagnosed with COVID-19 in Ireland have died - bringing the total deaths to 1,190 (following closer inspection by the HPSC, deaths that were reported earlier have now been removed from the totals reported)
  • 376 additional cases have been confirmed in Ireland
  • there are now 20,253 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland

Breakdown of the 946 lab confirmed deaths

  • 452 (46.4%) were hospitalised
  • 54 (5.5%) were admitted to Intensive Care Units (ICU)
  • 845 (86%) were reported to have had underlying health conditions
  • there were 504 (53%) male and 442 (47%) female
  • the median age was 83
  • the mean age was 81

*(Some of the numbers are lower than reported in previous days due to ongoing data validation.)

Breakdown of the 356 cases admitted to ICU

    Total admissions 356 100%
    People who had underlying conditions 295 83%
    Remaining in ICU 129 36.3%
    Discharged from ICU 173 42%
    Deaths 54 15.2%

Breakdown of the situation in community residential and nursing home settings

  • there were 392 clusters in community residential settings, 219 of which were in nursing homes
  • there were 4363 cases in community residential settings, 3457 of which were in nursing homes
  • 340 people were admitted to hospital from community residential settings, 228 of whom came from nursing homes
  • 697 people have died in community residential settings (including probable deaths), 593 of whom were in nursing homes
