COVID-19: Cases in Singapore

An update of the latest confirmed cases in Singapore

As of 17 December 2020, 12pm, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed and verified that there are no new cases of locally transmitted COVID-19 infection. There are 24 imported cases, who had already been placed on Stay-Home Notice (SHN) or isolated upon arrival in Singapore. Amongst the new cases today, 23 are asymptomatic, and were detected from proactive screening and surveillance, while 1 was symptomatic.  

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has remained low, with no new cases in the past week. We will continue to closely monitor these numbers, as well as the cases detected through our surveillance programme.

  • Cases in the community: 0

  • Cases residing in dormitories: 0

There are no cases residing in dormitories today.

  • Imported cases: 24 (1 symptomatic, 23 asymptomatic)

Amongst the 24 imported cases, 7 cases are Singaporeans and 6 cases are Singapore Permanent Residents who returned from Austria, India, Indonesia, Myanmar and the UK. Another 4 are Work Pass or Work Permit holders currently employed in Singapore who arrived from India, Indonesia and Maldives. In addition, there are 5 Dependant’s Pass holders who arrived from the UK, and a Student’s Pass holder who arrived from India. The remaining case is a Special Pass holder who is a crew member of a ship which arrived from Indonesia. He had not disembarked from the ship and was conveyed to the hospital in an ambulance after he developed symptoms.

They had all already been placed on SHN or isolated upon arrival in Singapore and were tested while serving SHN or during isolation.

14 more cases of COVID-19 infection have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities. In all, 58,252 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities. 

Most of the 33 confirmed cases who are still in hospital are stable or improving. None is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

63 cases who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for COVID-19 are isolated and cared for at community facilities.  

29 have passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection.
