Public Health Wales statement on Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak
This statement will be updated daily at 2pm
Updated: 2:00pm Saturday 28 March
Dr Robin Howe,
Incident Director for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak response at
Public Health Wales, said:
“172 new cases have tested positive for Novel
Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Wales, bringing the total number of confirmed
cases to 1093, although the true number of cases is likely to be higher.
“4 further
deaths have been reported to us of people who had tested positive for Novel
Coronavirus (COVID-19), taking the number of deaths in Wales to 38.
“We offer our
condolences to families and friends affected, and we ask those reporting on the
situation to respect patient confidentiality.
“Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) is now
circulating in every part of Wales. The
single most important action we can all take in fighting Coronavirus is to stay
at home in order to protect the NHS, and save lives.
“We
know that staying at home can be hard, and we want to thank each and every
person across Wales for doing their bit to help slow the spread of the virus.”
“Members
of the public must adhere to social distancing rules about staying at home, and
away from others, introduced by the UK and Welsh Government. These rules are available on the Public
Health Wales website.
“People no longer need to contact NHS 111 if they
think they may have contracted Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). Information about the symptoms to look out
for is available on the Public Health Wales website, or members of the public can use the
NHS Wales symptom checker.
“Anyone with
a suspected coronavirus illness should not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or
hospital. They should only contact NHS
111 if they feel they cannot cope with their symptoms at home, their condition
gets worse, or their symptoms do not get better after seven days.
“Only call
999 if you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, do not call 999 just
because you are on hold to 111. We
appreciate that 111 lines are busy, but you will get through after a wait.
“The public
play a very important role in slowing the spread of infection. By strictly following
the latest measures, you will protect yourself, protect the most vulnerable and
help to reduce the pressure on NHS Wales and minimise the impact of the virus.”

Diweddariad: 2:00pm Dydd Sadwrn, 28 Mawrth 2020
Dywedodd Dr Robin
Howe, Cyfarwyddwr Digwyddiadau ar gyfer yr ymateb
i achosion o’r Coronafeirws Newydd (COVID-19) yn Iechyd Cyhoeddus Cymru:
“Mae
172 o achosion newydd wedi profi’n bositif ar gyfer Coronafeirws Newydd
(COVID-19) yng Nghymru, gan wneud cyfanswm yr achosion sydd wedi’u cadarnhau yn
1093, ond mae’r nifer gwirioneddol o achosion yn debygol o
fod yn uwch.
“Mae 4 marwolaeth bellach wedi cael eu cofnodi ymhlith pobl
oedd wedi profi’n bositif am Goronafeirws Newydd (COVID-19), gan fynd â nifer y
marwolaethau yng Nghymru i 38.
“Estynnwn ein cydymdeimlad â’r teuluoedd a’r ffrindiau
sydd wedi’u heffeithio a gofynnwn i’r rhai sy’n adrodd ar y sefyllfa barchu
cyfrinachedd cleifion.
“Mae Coronafeirws
Newydd (COVID-19) ym mhob rhan
o Gymru yn awr. Y cam gweithredu unigol pwysicaf y gallwn ni i gyd ei gymryd er
mwyn brwydro yn erbyn Coronafeirws yw aros gartref er mwyn gwarchod y GIG ac
achub bywydau.
“Rydyn ni’n gwybod bod aros gartref
yn gallu bod yn anodd ac rydyn ni eisiau diolch i bob un person ledled Cymru am
wneud eu rhan i helpu i atal lledaeniad y feirws.”
“Rhaid i aelodau’r cyhoedd gadw at y
rheolau cadw pellter cymdeithasol ar gyfer aros gartref, ac oddi wrth bobl
eraill, sydd wedi’u cyflwyno gan Lywodraeth y DU a Chymru. Mae’r rheolau hyn ar
gael ar wefan Iechyd Cyhoeddus Cymru.
“Nid oes raid i bobl gysylltu â GIG 111 mwyach os ydynt
yn meddwl eu bod wedi dal Coronafeirws Newydd (COVID-19). Mae gwybodaeth am y symptomau
i gadw llygad amdanynt ar gael ar wefan
Iechyd Cyhoeddus Cymru, neu gall aelodau’r cyhoedd ddefnyddio gwiriwr symptomau GIG
Cymru.
“Ni ddylai unrhyw un sy’n amau bod ganddo salwch coronafeirws
fynd i feddygfa, fferyllfa nac ysbyty. Dim ond os ydynt yn teimlo nad ydynt yn
gallu ymdopi â’u symptomau gartref ddylai pobl gysylltu â GIG 111, os yw eu
cyflwr yn gwaethygu, neu os nad yw eu symptomau’n gwella ar ôl saith
diwrnod.
“Dim ond os ydych chi’n profi argyfwng sy’n bygwth eich
bywyd ddylech chi ffonio 999, peidiwch â ffonio 999 dim ond am eich bod yn
gorfod aros am ymateb ar 111. Rydym yn gwerthfawrogi bod llinellau 111 yn
brysur, ond byddwch yn cael ateb dim ond i chi aros.
“Mae’r cyhoedd yn chwarae rhan bwysig iawn mewn arafu
lledaeniad yr haint. Drwy ddilyn y cyngor diweddaraf yn llym, byddwch yn eich
gwarchod eich hun a’r bobl fwyaf agored i niwed, ac yn helpu i leihau’r pwysau
ar GIG Cymru ac yn lleihau effaith y feirws.”
