Novel coronavirus alert
4 March 2020
A 26-year-old male from Logan is currently in isolation in Princess Alexandra Hospital after testing positive for novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
The man who has recently returned from Iran remains in a stable condition.
There have now been eleven people in Queensland confirmed with COVID-19, including the three people from the Diamond Princess Cruise Ship.
A 20-year-old man, confirmed with COVID-19 on 3 March 2020, remains isolated in a stable condition in the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
This patient’s housemate is also isolated in the RBWH undergoing assessment. COVID-19 testing for this man is ongoing and the community will be updated once test results are finalised.
A 63-year-old woman, confirmed with COVID-19 on 29 February 2020, remains in isolation in a stable condition at Gold Coast University Hospital.
Eight patients have been clinically cleared by their treating team and discharged from hospital.
Queensland Health is urging anyone who has been overseas in the last 14 days and is feeling unwell to see a doctor immediately.
If you have been overseas in the last 14 days and feel unwell please call 13 HEALTH or your GP or local hospital to arrange an assessment. Calling ahead to the GP surgery or hospital is recommended to let them know your symptoms and travel history, this also helps them prepare for your arrival.

There has been a seventh novel coronavirus case confirmed in Queensland.
A 20-year-old male from China has been confirmed with coronavirus (COVID-19) in Toowong, Brisbane.
The man is currently in a stable condition in isolation in the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
The man had travelled to Dubai for at least 14 days before entering Australia, via Brisbane on 23 February 2020. He became unwell on 25 February 2020.
There have now been ten people in Queensland with COVID-19, including the three people from the Diamond Princess Cruise Ship. Eight patients have been clinically cleared by their treating team and discharged from hospital.

There has been a sixth novel coronavirus case confirmed in Queensland.
A 63 year old woman has been confirmed to have novel coronavirus on the Gold Coast.
The woman returned from Iran and is currently in isolation at the Gold Coast University Hospital.
Contact tracing is underway.
Queensland Health will be contacting customers of Hair Plus at Australia Fair, Southport, who had appointments at the salon on Thursday 27 February after 11 am and may have been in close contact with the woman.
If you went to Australia Fair but did not go to that particular hair salon on Thursday, there is no need for concern, but if you would like any advice please ring 13HEALTH.

There has been a fifth confirmed case of novel coronavirus in Queensland.
The 37 year old woman, a Chinese national, was travelling in the same tour group as the previously confirmed cases – a 44 year old man, a 42 year old woman, a 37 year old man and an 8 year old boy.

There has been a fourth confirmed case of novel coronavirus in Queensland.
The 37 year old man, a Chinese national, was a member of the same tour group travelling with the previously confirmed cases – a 44 year old man, a 42 year old woman and an 8 year old boy.

There has been a third novel coronavirus case confirmed in Queensland.
An 8 year old boy, a Chinese national from Wuhan (Hubei Province), has been confirmed to have novel coronavirus.
The child is a member of the tour group travelling with the 44 year old man and a 42 year old woman confirmed with coronavirus on 29 January and 30 January 2020.

There has been a second novel coronavirus case confirmed in Queensland.
A 42 year old woman, a Chinese national from Wuhan (Hubei Province), has been confirmed to have novel coronavirus.
The woman was a member of the tour group travelling with the 44 year old man confirmed with coronavirus on 29 January 2020.

Gold Coast region
There has now been a confirmed case of novel coronavirus in Queensland.
The man, 44, remains in a stable condition at Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH), where he is in isolation.
The man, who is from the city of Wuhan (Hubei Province), arrived in Melbourne via Singapore as part of a tour group on 22 January 2020, 5 days before feeling unwell.
He developed symptoms on a flight from Melbourne to the Gold Coast on Tiger Airways flight #TT566 on 27 January. The flight arrived at 8.45pm.
He was taken to GCUH about 3.30pm on 28 January where he was tested and diagnosed with novel coronavirus.
We urge anyone who has been in the above areas at these times to be alert for symptoms of novel coronavirus for 14 days following that date. If they develop symptoms, they should visit their GP immediately. They should call ahead and advise the clinic of their symptoms so precautions can be taken.
A number of clinical symptoms have been reported in identified cases of novel coronavirus. These symptoms include:
- fever
- a cough
- sore throat
- fatigue
- difficulty breathing.
