How is the data collected?

As of 7 June 2020, 1 435 607 cases have been reported in the EU/EEA and the UK: United Kingdom (284 868), Spain (241 310), Italy (234 801), Germany (183 979), France (153 634), Belgium (59 072), Netherlands (47 335), Sweden (43 887), Portugal (34 351), Poland (25 986), Ireland (25 183), Romania (20 290), Austria (16 822), Denmark (11 924), Czechia (9 567), Norway (8 504), Finland (6 964), Luxembourg (4 035), Hungary (3 970), Greece (2 952), Bulgaria (2 711), Croatia (2 247), Estonia (1 931), Iceland (1 806), Lithuania (1 705), Slovakia (1 528), Slovenia (1 494), Latvia (1 086), Cyprus (960), Malta (622) and Liechtenstein (83).

As of 7 June 2020, 168 699 deaths have been reported in the EU/EEA and the UK: United Kingdom (40 465), Italy (33 846), France (29 142), Spain (27 135), Belgium (9 580), Germany (8 668), Netherlands (6 011), Sweden (4 656), Ireland (1 670), Portugal (1 474), Romania (1 318), Poland (1 153), Austria (672), Denmark (587), Hungary (542), Czechia (327), Finland (322), Norway (238), Greece (180), Bulgaria (160), Luxembourg (110), Slovenia (108), Croatia (104), Lithuania (71), Estonia (69), Slovakia (28), Latvia (25), Cyprus (18), Iceland (10), Malta (9) and Liechtenstein (1).

NOTE: on 29/05/2020, the increase reported by France is due to the implementation of a new laboratory-based surveillance system of COVID-19 (SI-DEP) since 13 May with a significant increase of the laboratory coverage, allowing the inclusion of retrospective cases diagnosed since that date.

Every day between 6.00 and 10.00 CET, a team of epidemiologists screens up to 500 relevant sources to collect the latest figures. The data screening is followed by ECDC’s standard epidemic intelligence process for which every single data entry is validated and documented in an ECDC database.
