How is the data collected?

As of 17 June 2020, 1 486 366 cases have been reported in the EU/EEA and the UK: United Kingdom (298 136), Spain (244 328), Italy (237 500), Germany (187 184), France (157 716), Belgium (60 155), Sweden (53 323), Netherlands (49 087), Portugal (37 336), Poland (30 195), Ireland (25 334), Romania (22 415), Austria (17 098), Denmark (12 250), Czechia (10 111), Norway (8 631), Finland (7 112), Hungary (4 078), Luxembourg (4 075), Bulgaria (3 453), Greece (3 148), Croatia (2 255), Estonia (1 975), Iceland (1 812), Lithuania (1 776), Slovakia (1 552), Slovenia (1 509), Latvia (1 098), Cyprus (985), Malta (656) and Liechtenstein (83).

Every day between 6.00 and 10.00 CET, a team of epidemiologists screens up to 500 relevant sources to collect the latest figures. The data screening is followed by ECDC’s standard epidemic intelligence process for which every single data entry is validated and documented in an ECDC database.
