COVID-19 situation update for the EU/EEA and the UK, as of 28 November 2020

Epidemiological update

ECDC will switch to a weekly reporting schedule for the COVID-19 situation worldwide and in the EU/EEA and the UK from December this year. All daily updates will be discontinued from then. Additional details about the implementation of this change will be communicated on this website in due course.

As of 28 November 2020, 12 882 936 cases have been reported in the EU/EEA and the UK: France (2 196 199), Spain (1 628 208), United Kingdom (1 589 301), Italy (1 538 217), Germany (1 028 089), Poland (958 416), Belgium (570 733), Czechia (515 984), Netherlands (508 243), Romania (457 848), Portugal (285 838), Austria (269 510), Sweden (243 129), Hungary (204 708), Bulgaria (139 955), Croatia (119 706), Slovakia (103 106), Greece (101 287), Denmark (76 718), Slovenia (72 674), Ireland (71 699), Lithuania (58 212), Norway (34 747), Luxembourg (33 409), Finland (23 766), Latvia (15 808), Estonia (11 323), Cyprus (9 983), Malta (9 501), Iceland (5 346) and Liechtenstein (1 273).

As of 28 November 2020, 316 512 deaths have been reported in the EU/EEA and the UK: United Kingdom (57 551), Italy (53 677), France (51 914), Spain (44 668), Belgium (16 339), Poland (16 147), Germany (15 965), Romania (10 884), Netherlands (9 254), Czechia (7 967), Sweden (6 681), Hungary (4 516), Portugal (4 276), Bulgaria (3 680), Austria (2 764), Greece (2 102), Ireland (2 043), Croatia (1 600), Slovenia (883), Denmark (816), Slovakia (771), Lithuania (482), Finland (393), Norway (328), Luxembourg (300), Latvia (190), Malta (128), Estonia (104), Cyprus (48), Iceland (26) and Liechtenstein (15).

*United Kingdom: from 3 October 2020, due to a technical issue, COVID-19 cases from 24 September to 1 October will be reported by British authorities in the coming days.

On 2 October 2020, authorities in Ireland retrocorrected the total number of COVID-19 deaths leading to a negative value for the deaths reported on 3 October 2020.

From end of August 2020, Swedish authorities are performing daily data consolidation leading to data retro-corrections. From week 38, the Swedish Public Health Agency will update COVID-19 daily data four times per week on Tuesday–Friday. Hence, the cumulative figures and related outputs include cases and deaths from the previous 14 days with available data at the time of data collection.

As of 24 August 2020, Authorities in Luxembourg report COVID-19 cases and deaths from their resident population only. Therefore, the difference with the figure from 27 August is translated into a negative value for the cases and deaths reported on 28 August 2020
