WHO has declared the recent Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19) pandemic, affecting 213 countries & territories as International Public Health Emergency of International Concern. In this context, Government of Mizoram has strengthened the surveillance and control measures against the disease. With the undertaking of State Government and approval of ICMR, COVID-19 laboratory in now functional at Zoram Medical College(ZMC), Falkawn and Civil Hospital, Lunglei. In wake of COVID-19 outbreak, the general public is advised to adhere to health advisories issued by the State Government. People at large should follow the cough etiquette and do frequent hand-washing with soap and water. All are reminded to continue to strictly follow social distancing measures and to refrain from organizing public events unless unavoidable.
The Mizoram (Containment and Prevention of COVID-19) Ordinance, 2020 promulgates that spitting in public and improper donning of face mask, leaving or escaping the designated quarantine/isolation facility before completion of the stipulated time are all punishable offences. As per the Ordinance, those who are quarantined should follow guidelines strictly and should avoid any activity endangering the safety of the public. They should contact the Help Line no.102(Toll Free)/0389-2323336/2318336 in case of any queries and for those who develop fever with cough or difficulty of breathing during this period.
