Updates on COVID-19 in Republic of Korea

□ As of 0:00, 5 August 2020, the total number of confirmed cases is 14,456 (including 2,500 imported cases), of which 13,406 cases have been discharged from isolation. There are 15 new local cases, 18 new imported cases, and 1 new death.

□ The current state* of major local clusters as of today (as of 12:00, 5 August) are as follows:

* The specific figures below may differ from the daily reported statistics (which are based on figures as of 0:00 today) or figures disclosed by local municipalities due to factors such as report timing and differences in the time period considered

○ Related to an office (Yoohwan DnC) in Gangnam-gu, Seoul City, 1 additional case was confirmed in a test conducted prior to the case’s release from quarantine. In total, 18* cases have been confirmed.

* employees = 10, family members of employees = 7, acquaintance of employee = 1

○ Related to an acquaintance meeting in Songpa-gu, Seoul City, 1 additional case was confirmed while in quarantine. In total, 9* cases were confirmed.

* Index case = 1, family members = 1, acquaintances & contacts = 7

○ Related to the Love Church in Songpa-gu, Seoul City, 2 additional cases were confirmed in a test conducted prior to their release from quarantine. In total, 21* cases have been confirmed.

* Church members = 19 (including index case), others = 2 (1 acquaintance, 1 family member of confirmed)

○ Related to a coffee shop in Gangnam-gu, Seoul City, and a restaurant in Yangjae-dong, Seoul City, 1 additional case was confirmed while in quarantine. The new case is a family member of a previously confirmed case, who was an acquaintance of the restaurant’s owner. In total, 13* cases have been confirmed.

○ Related to a previously uncategorized confirmed case of foreign nationality in Cheongju City, Chungbuk Province, 5 additional cases were confirmed after the confirmation of the index case (4 August). In total, 6* (Uzbekistan nationals) cases have been confirmed. Out of the 336 individuals who attended the Muslim worship service, 128 tested negative, and testing for 208 individuals are underway. In-depth epidemiological investigation on the source and route of infection, along with contacts between confirmed cases is underway.

* Index case = 1, household members of index case = 4, acquaintance of index case = 1

○ Related to a previously uncategorized confirmed case (index case, woman, aged 48) on 31 July in Yeongdo-gu, Busan City, contact investigation efforts confirmed 5* additional cases related to the Yeongjin 607 (coastal vessel), docked at Gamcheon Port. In total, 6 cases have been confirmed. In-depth epidemiological investigation on the source and route of infection and possibility of contact between confirmed cases is underway.

* Korean nationals = 4 (1 captain, 1 sailor, 1 security personnel, 1 acquaintance), Indonesian nationals = 1 (1 sailor)

□ As of 0:00, 5 August, there were 18 imported cases, of which, 6 were confirmed at the point of entry, and 12 were confirmed in the community while in mandatory self-quarantine after arrival. 11 were Korean nationals and 7 foreign nationals.

○ The (presumed) location of infection acquisition of the 18 new imported cases are: Americas (6) (US 6), Europe (1) (France 1), Africa (1) (Ethiopia 1), and Asia excluding China (10) (Uzbekistan 6, Kazakhstan 1, Philippines 1, Japan 1, India 1).
