Updates on COVID-19 in Republic of Korea
5 September 2020
□ As of 0:00, 5 September 2020, the total number of confirmed cases is 21,010 (including 2,877 imported cases), of which 16,009 cases have been discharged from isolation. There are 158 new local cases, 10 new imported cases, and 2 new death.

□ Major local clusters as of 12:00 today (5 September):

○ Related to Sarang Jeil Church in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul City, 4 additional cases were confirmed from contact investigation. In total, 1,156 cases have been confirmed.
- 1,076 cases total in capital area (Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi)
- 80 cases total in other areas
○ Related to August 15 Seoul rallies, 37 additional cases were confirmed from investigation. In total, 510 cases have been confirmed.
- Rally related (202), further transmissions (239), police (8), under investigation (61)
- 254 cases total in capital area (Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi)
- 256 cases total in other areas
○ Related to Jinheung Global in Dongjak-gu, Seoul City, 3 additional cases were confirmed from contact investigation. In total, 39 cases have been confirmed.
○ Related to Seoul Asan Medical Center in Songpa-gu, Seoul City, 1 additional cases were confirmed. In total, 7 cases have been confirmed. Further investigation is underway.
○ Related to Coupang Songpa Campus II, Songpa-gu, first case was confirmed on 4 September and 2 additional cases were confirmed. In total, 3 cases have been confirmed. Investigation is underway.
○ Related to Hanrim University Dongtan Sungshim Hospital, Gyeonggi Province, first case was confirmed on 2 September and 1 additional case was confirmed on 3 September. Investigation is underway.
○ Related to Paradise Hotel, Incheon, first case was confirmed on 31 August and 7 additional cases were found from contact investigation. In total, 8 cases have been confirmed. Investigation is underway.
○ Related to a kimchi factory in Cheongyang-gun, Chungnam Province, 1 additional case was confirmed from contact investigation. In total, 23 cases have been confirmed. Investigation is underway.
○ Related to officetel related to real estate auction in Yeonje-gu, Busan City, 6 additional cases were confirmed from contact investigation. In total, 19 cases have been confirmed.
□ Imported cases as of 0:00, 5 September:
○ 10 new imported cases
- 4 confirmed at the point of entry and 6 were confirmed in the community while in mandatory self-quarantine after arrival
- 6 Korean nationals and 4 foreign nationals
○ Infection acquisition location (presumed):

○ Note:
- Critical: patients treated with mechanical ventilator, ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation), CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy)
- Severe: patients treated with oxygen mask and high flow oxygen therapy
- ICU treatment is decided based on the need for intensive care based on factors such as clinical condition and presence of any underlying medical condition and may differ from severe and critical case classification criteria. The number of severe/critical cases may not match the number of patients in ICU.
□ The Enhanced Social Distancing Level 2 for the greater capital area has been extended to 20 September. KCDC advises the public to follow the guidelines for COVID-19 prevention.
○ Dining in is not allowed in general restaurants (restaurants, bars, hofs, snack bars, fast food, fried chicken, etc.) during the hours from 9 pm to 5 am. (Takeout recommended)
○ No eating or drinking is allowed inside the premises of franchise coffee/tea/drink shops and franchise ice cream parlors and bakeries. (Takeout recommended)
○ Indoor fitness facilities such as gyms, golf practice, badminton, and table tennis are not available under the current gathering ban. (Home or outdoor activities recommended)
○ Study cafes and study rooms are also not available due to the gathering ban. Hagwon and job training institutions also may not have on-site classes. (Online classes recommended)
