Scottish COVID-19 test numbers: 17 April 2020

A total of 36,637 people in Scotland have been tested. Of these:

  • 29,228 were confirmed negative
  • 7,409 were positive
  • 837 patients who tested positive have died

Management information reported by NHS Boards shows

  • 189 patients were in intensive care last night, with 184 of those having tested positive
  • there were 1,799 people in Scottish hospitals with either confirmed or suspected COVID-19 (including those in intensive care)

Other management information

On 16 April 2020 there were:

  • 3,413 calls to 111 and 581 calls to the Coronavirus Helpline. The number of calls to 111 includes all calls, whether or not they relate to COVID-19
  • 1,524 Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) attendances, of which 432 were for suspected COVID-19. SAS took 241 people to hospital with suspected COVID-19
  • 616 people delayed in hospital. This is 996 less than the baseline period (04/03 weekly return). An initial target to reduce delays by 400 by the end of March and a further target of reducing by a further 500 by the end of April have now been met.
  • 456 (42%) adult care homes which had lodged at least one notification for suspected COVID-19 to the Care Inspectorate. Note: the figure for yesterday has been revised down to 444, see trends charts for more detail. It is important to note that not all of these care homes will still have outbreaks; additional data will be published shortly on the number that currently have outbreaks.
  • As of 15 April a total of 7,652 staff, or around 4.6% of the NHS workforce, are reporting as absent due to a range of reasons related to Covid-19
