Scottish COVID-19 test numbers: 21 April 2020

A total of 41,699 people in Scotland have been tested. Of these:

  • 33,027 were confirmed negative
  • 8,672 were positive
  • 985 patients who tested positive have died

Management information reported by NHS Boards shows

  • 166 patients were in intensive care last night, with 159 of those having tested positive
  • there were 1,866 people in Scottish hospitals with either confirmed or suspected COVID-19 (including those in intensive care)

Other management information

On 20 April 2020 there were:

  • 3,555 calls to 111 and 520 calls to the Coronavirus Helpline. The number of calls to 111 includes all calls, whether or not they relate to COVID-19
  • 1,565 Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) attendances, of which 353 were for suspected COVID-19. SAS took 205 people to hospital with suspected COVID-19
  • 619 people delayed in hospital. This is 993 less than the baseline period (04/03 weekly return). An initial target to reduce delays by 400 by the end of March and a further target of reducing by a further 500 by the end of April have now been met.
  • 475 (44%) adult care homes which had lodged at least one notification for suspected COVID-19 to the Care Inspectorate. It is important to note that not all of these care homes will still have outbreaks; additional data will be published shortly on the number that currently have outbreaks.
  • a total of 6,971 staff, or around 4.2% of the NHS workforce, are reporting as absent due to a range of reasons related to COVID-19
